What started off as a joke, became a special treat for residents of the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina Township.

“We were playing some patriotic music in our exercise room a couple months ago,” said Roberta Gifford, executive assistant to the president of the facility. “The residents said we should have a parade. We decided we could do that since many of our residents can’t get out to see a parade. We thought we’d bring the parade to them.”

Participants ranged from the Medina Township Police and Fire Departments, to residents and employees with their children and grandchildren. A few therapy dogs marched along with the EMS Squad from Medina.

One resident, Alan Nichols, is a veteran so he was asked to carry the flag in the parade.

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm and something for everybody to do,” said Marge Clark, a resident at WRMC.

Louise Nichols agreed. “It’s a very good idea. I’m glad they thought of it.”

There was only one complaint heard amongst the crowd. Next year they want more.
