Fire trucks, dressed-up dogs and antique cars are staple attractions of many holiday parades. However, the procession at the Western Reserve Masonic Community July 1 also featured residents riding down the route on motorized scooters or walkers.
This is the first time the retirement community has held such an event, said Recreation Director Paula Bogre. The idea came after seeing residents were interested in attending holiday events, but that it was difficult for many to get out due to mobility or other issues.
Also in attendance were the Medina Township police and fire departments, who sent vehicles. Therapy dogs from volunteer organizations along with residents' pets were also dressed up in red, white and blue.
